The recent decades have seen an acceleration in the ways we connect with people around the world. In your pocket, in the form of your cell phone, you carry more computing power than a computer the size of a room could manage a mere 50 years ago. However, technology is merely a means to an end: connection, cooperation, and collaboration with people from all over the world. Even with access to papers and journals online, the best way to make an impact and connect with people from other universities and labs is to present your research personally and to use your enthusiasm to inspire others. The ability to confidently and clearly make a presentation in English is an essential skill for scientists and business people who wish to work globally. Merely being able to read a research aloud is not enough; effective communication requires a strategy for before, during, and after your speech in order for you to have an impact on your target audience. To this end, I welcome you to come and join us as we work to develop your ability to grab the attention of the audience, present your research, and network with people after they have heard you speak.
